Cowboys Owner Jones Penalized $250,000 for ‘Inadvertent’ Offensive Signal toward Spectators

“That was regrettable. That was kind of an interaction with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”

He further clarified that the signal was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just showed the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently done. This is sincere. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

Historical Precedent for Owner Fines

This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Previous examples include:

• Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
